Be Mine Bouquet Painting

It's finished! A painting that I've been laboring over for a few weeks now. I had a vision for a vivid bouquet on a dark background. It took me a long time since I paint during nap times and among the chaos! I have a space to paint but I usually paint in the kitchen because it is easier to watch my boys. I reworked and edited this painting so many times and now I am happy with it. Since it is close to lover's day I thought that the title Be Mine was fitting. I hope it finds a good home.

Here it is in the works:

Writing an Artist Statement and Some Nifty Florals

I've never written an artist statement before. It always seemed unnecessary because shouldn't people be able to tell what kind of art I make by looking at it? But I came across this post about it and decided it IS  important. It just gives people that little extra look into your creative mind. It may help them look at your art and say "Oh, I get it!" So with the 30 minutes I had between putting the kids down for a nap and working on a painting I sat down and wrote a short artist statement that I feel good about. I also jazzed up my about me page on etsy. You can see it all here.

I've also been back at painting flowers again. I've doodled, colored, painted flowers since I was probably 3 years old. It's one subject I never tire of. It may seem cliche to some and boring but I just feel so INSPIRED by them. Here are some of my favorite florals from some of the greats.
Flower Garden by Gustav Klimt

Flowers in a Copper Vase by Vincent Van Gogh

Flowers on Red Carpet by Pierre Bonnard

These paintings are just so beautiful and inspiring. Love the bright rich colors and the simplicity of the subject. Some of you are like boooring. Well this blog probably isn't for you ;)

Hope you have a great day.

More new art!

I'm on a roll. Painting things that make total sense like Caribbean vacation paintings in the middle of winter. Why not? Wouldn't this painting look super neat over a white couch in a super modern apartment loft? Or in a beach house? I know someone out there has the perfect space for it. I bet one if those designers for hgtv could create some fantastic room around this theme. That's my hope for my sometimes crazy colorful paintings.

On the Bright Side of Things

Here is a series of some of my vibrant and bright paintings. I love using bright colors because they can really awaken a space and make a big impact. Painting with these colors makes oh so happy.

All are available for purchase in my etsy shop gallery.

Note: The swirly flowers painting has been revised. You can see what it looks like here.

Do what you love now

My life is busy. Life is busy. Now that I'm in my thirties I feel like each year is going faster and faster. That's why I have this urgency to do the things that I love.... In my 20's I was lazy. I mean, I was going to be young forever right?  Now I want to cram my day full of artwork, good cooking, getting down on the floor to play choo choos and cars with my little boys. Life is short and I want to live it fully. This may look different to someone else. I just want to be home with my babies, laugh with my husband, and create things that make me (and hopefully others) happy. I hope this blog can help me focus in on those things.

In the studio (my kitchen counter) today:

Small paintings. A series of four will be released later this week.

Enjoy your Monday!

Paintings on wood panels and some goals.

The new year has brought out the creative energy in me! I think this happens to a lot of people. Now let's keep it going! I think it's important to be surrounded by people who support your passions. My husband and friends are so good a that. My biggest supporter would have to be my three year old Sam who will look at my paintings and say "That is a beautiful painting mommy!" My one year old James would rather eat the paintings at this point....but he'll come around.

Here are some new ones made on cradled wood panels both available for purchase at my etsy shop.

Some of my goals for this year are:

1. Make a lot of art.
2. Find a gallery to represent me
3. Get good at marketing myself (this is so hard for me!)
4. Find a good balance between being a good mother/wife and finding time to paint
5. Let go of perfection. The house is never going to be perfect...neither am I.

I have to skip number six because the key is broken on my computer ha!
